Our mission at Suffolk
Presbyterian Church is to be a bridge to Christ through faith and
service.
One way we accomplish this is by letting the Holy Spirit work
through us in our missions ministries.
We are active in Building
Suffolk, Inc. , (formerly a wing of Habitat for Humanity), a
non-profit organization devoted to eliminating sub-standard housing
and homelessness throughout Hampton Roads. We have participated in
building several houses for families right here in Suffolk.
We maintain a food pantry ministry for feeding hungry families
in Suffolk and the surrounding area: to the Center for New Hope,
the Genieve Shelter for battered women, to Suffolk Social Services,
and even to walk-ins.
We have a Mission Garden in which we grow fresh vegetables and
fruits for the same hungry people - these are especially welcome
in addition to the typical non-perishable canned and boxed goods
available in most foodbanks and food pantries. People with green
thumbs can use their gifts to bless others in this fun and valuable
ministry.
We have formed a mission team to work with Living
Waters for the World to train and deliver water decontamination
systems in Guatemala, to share the gift of clean water with communities
in need.
This is just a small portion of our missions work...there is always
more to do, and there are always more ways to build bridges. |
